CASTING NEWS:

Happy 2008 to All!!

If 2007 is a sign of things to come in 2008, it is going to be a very busy year for filming in Massachusetts and RI.

I began working on the feature film "Pink Panther Deux" on August 20 and finished the year with two feature films at one time, "The Lonely Maiden" and "Real Men Cry" wrapping on December 21.  It was 4 months straight of go, go, go without a moment to stop and take a breath.

Well I'm breathing now and enjoying time with my family.  Both prinicpal and extras casting has already begun on a few feature films and if you aren't already in the loop, you need to be.  For the past three years I have been providing details about these opportunities on this website.  If I don't already know who you are, you should send me a headshot and resume and fill out a SIZE CARD and return it to purdyquinlan@comcast.net.  If you are on MySpace, you should become my friend at

Purdy-Quinlan Casting's Myspace Page.

You can also mail a copy of your headshot and resume to:

This 26-week professional drama program trains children in

Diane Purdy’s ‘Drama by Doing’ method – “To be an Actor you must Act”.  Playing improvisational games, reading books on acting, or studying stage skills does not train you as an actor.  Acting involves being cast in a play, memorizing lines, learning cues, rehearsing stage movement “blocking” and creating characterizations and then performing in costume with hair and makeup, sets and props in front of a live audience. That’s what we do at CTW!  All plays are written by Award-Winning Children’s Playwright, Diane Purdy.  There are no individual ‘STARS’, all are treated equally and work together in an ensemble cast resulting in a team effort to produce a professional theatrical showcase of talent.

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

CTW, Inc. a not-for-profit 501(C)3 organization has been building self-confidence, fostering creative expression, enhancing individual potential and creating professional actors since its doors first opened in 1970.  CTW provides a friendly, non-competitive atmosphere where kids learn to work in an ensemble.  All cast members are guaranteed an integral role in an original script written by Diane.  The scripts are created to enhance and stretch each child’s potential as an actor.  The children learn to develop characterizations, memorize lines, stage movement, blocking, diction, projection, cueing and acting techniques.

Professional theatre training is one of the organization’s missions.  During the past thirty-plus years, many CTW cast members have become members of Equity, Screen Actor’s Guild (S.A.G.) and American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (A.F.T.R.A.).

Many CTW graduates now work in professional positions, i.e.: Broadway stage-fencing choreography, voice-overs, print modeling, cabaret entertaining; related backstage fields, i.e.: television assistant producer, stage crew member, box office staff, drama teachers.

ANNOUNCEMENT:

Purdy-Quinlan Studios announces that online registration is now open for the 2007-2008 season of Diane Purdy's Children's Theatre Workshop, Inc.  Creative Director, Pamela Boyden of Hanover, encourages families to register before August 15 for a $50 discount and before September 15 for a $25 discount.  Anyone signing up at the Weymouth Day event on September 30 will receive a special discount that day.   There will be an Open House and Fundraising Event on Saturday, October 6 from 10:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at CTW's new theatre home at the Trinity Episcopal Church, 241 Broad Street, Weymouth, thanks to Reverend Claire for her support.  Children wishing to experience an authentic theatre experience with professional costuming, sets and roles should register online or learn more by visiting www.purdyquinlanstudios.com.

The 26-week program will begin during the week of October 13 and will culminate with erformances during the weekend of May 3 and 4, 2008.  This is the 38th season of the program which was created by Diane in 1970 for her daughter, Jodi as a creative outlet.  The success of the program is apparent in that both women are members of the Screen Actors Guild and are busy working in the film and television industry as actors and casting professionals.  Their careers date back to the mid-1970's on such films as "The Brinks Job", in which Diane worked while attending UMass Boston as a Theatre/English major.  Jodi got her start at 19 when she was cast in a principal role as a teenager by Cliff Robertson in "Charlie II" a sequel to the film that won him the Academy Award for Best Actor in 1968.

The Purdy's have been assisting casting directors with filling children's principal and extra ooles in locally shot productions since 1980.  Purdy-Quinlan was the Extra's Casting Director for the Disney feature film "The Game Plan" starring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson that was shot in the Boston area last fall and is coming to theatres on September 28.  She cast over 3,000 locals in a variety of roles.  During the summer of 2006 she worked as the Child Welfare Worker under first time director, Ben Affleck in the soon to be released "Gone Baby Gone" written by Dennis Lehane ("Mystic River").  She also assisted in casting several roles, including the photo double, Leah Drago and stand-in, Mandy Wall for the principal role of "Amanda" in the film.  Both girls are from Weymouth and were 5 years old when they shot the film.  They are active members of Purdy's theatre group.

Purdy-Quinlan is seeking new faces for her casting files and encourages folks to visit her website to register.  She will be working on three feature films shooting in the area from mid-August to mid-November.  As the film industry grows in New England, the Purdy's expect to be increasingly busy over the coming years.  In many cases there is no experience necessary to work as an extra and often times it is merely a look or Boston accent they seek for speaking roles and that could mean you.

Zach & Martin Scorsese

While freelancing, casting director, Jodi Purdy-Quinlan, auditioned 8-year-old Zach of Bridgewater, Mass for the role of Young Billy (older Billy played by Leonardo DiCaprio) in the soon to be released Warner Bros. feature film "The Departed" directed by Martin Scorsese and starring Jack Nicholson, Martin Sheen, Matt Damon, Mark Wahlberg, Robert Wahlberg, Alec Baldwin and Boston's own, Tom Kemp.  Zach's scene is a flashback in the film and Kemp plays his dad and he has a conversation with Nicholson, a Boston crime boss on the waterfront in Boston.  Purdy-Quinlan assisted award-winning casting director, Carolyn Pickman in the search for this role and assisted in the audition in March 2005.  Scorsese selected Zach from the audition tape that was submitted.  Zach's mom, Michelle, contacted Purdy-Quinlan directly about setting up an audition for the role. "I received an email from his mom requesting an appointment, she emailed me a photo and I thought he looked perfect, as it turns out I was right!" said Purdy-Quinlan.

CTW student, Patrick Cooper (7) who will be playing the "Pirate" in Diane Purdy's original play "Naughty Natalies Nightmare", was recently cast in a principal role (speaking) in a Massachusetts Teacher's Association Public Service Announcement.

Janet Evans of Plymouth was flown out to New York City to film a NFL Network Promo for Superbowl XV.  Janet, mother of Richie Mulvey of RJ Mulvey Builders of Dorchester, recently worked as a Background Extra in the film "Stiffs" at a scene shot at Lombardo's in Randolph.  When Jodi was asked to help in the search for 'older' men and women with Boston accents, she instantly thought of Janet.  After a two-week search in Boston and New York and 3 callbacks, Janet was chosen for the role.  In the Promo, Janet is matched up with her husband, played by a New York actor.  He looks into the camera and says "Why do we love Tom Brady so much?  Three Superbowl rings and more to come, that's why!"  Then Janet looks into the camera and says "And he's a complete hotty!"

Speaking of Richie Mulvey, who Jodi hired to build a new bathroom and kitchenette in her basement this past fall, he has had his own share of fame.  In November he played a 'wedding guest' in the final episode of the soon to be aired new Showtime original series "Brotherhood" starring Jason Issacs and Jason Clarke.  In addition, he had a few days on the set of "Stiffs" as a 'funeral guest'; a 'dead body' and a witness to a 'Mob hit'.  Speaking of Mob hits, Richie, was recently cast in an Independent film "Street Pl
