************************************

This 26-week professional drama program trains children in

Diane Purdy’s ‘Drama by Doing’ method – “To be an Actor you must Act”.  Playing improvisational games, reading books on acting, or studying stage skills does not train you as an actor.  Acting involves being cast in a play, memorizing lines, learning cues, rehearsing stage movement “blocking” and creating characterizations and then performing in costume with hair and makeup, sets and props in front of a live audience. That’s what we do at CTW!  All plays are written by Award-Winning Children’s Playwright, Diane Purdy.  There are no individual ‘STARS’, all are treated equally and work together in an ensemble cast resulting in a team effort to produce a professional theatrical showcase of talent.

CTW, Inc. a not-for-profit 501(C)3 organization has been building self-confidence, fostering creative expression, enhancing individual potential and creating professional actors since its doors first opened in 1970.  CTW provides a friendly, non-competitive atmosphere where kids learn to work in an ensemble.  All cast members are guaranteed an integral role in an original script written by Diane.  The scripts are created to enhance and stretch each child’s potential as an actor.  The children learn to develop characterizations, memorize lines, stage movement, blocking, diction, projection, cueing and acting techniques.

Professional theatre training is one of the organization’s missions.  During the past thirty-plus years, many CTW cast members have become members of Equity, Screen Actor’s Guild (S.A.G.) and American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (A.F.T.R.A.).

Many CTW graduates now work in professional positions, i.e.: Broadway stage-fencing choreography, voice-overs, print modeling, cabaret entertaining; related backstage fields, i.e.: television assistant producer, stage crew member, box office staff, drama teachers.

PRESS RELEASE

Local casting director, Jodi Purdy-Quinlan will be accepting headshots and resumes from people of all ages who purchase tickets to the plays she is producing and presenting to the public at Abigail Adams Middle School, 89 Broad Street, East Weymouth on Saturday, April 8 & Sunday, April 9.  Tickets are $5.00 for all ages.

Purdy-Quinlan Studios is proud to present Diane Purdy’s Children’s Theatre Workshop, Inc.’s 36th season of productions.  The non-profit organization was founded in 1970 and has been dedicated to providing theatrical training to hundreds of South Shore and Boston children.  Fifty children ranging in age between 4 and 18 years old will perform four plays written and created by award-winning playwright Diane Purdy-Theriault of Quincy.

As these are professionally staged theatrical productions performed by young children, some of whom are beginners, we ask that parents consider the temperament of their children before purchasing tickets.  For the sake of the young performers, disruptive children will be asked to leave but will receive a full-refund and invitation to a future performance.

The curtain will open at 3:00 p.m. on the 8th for a presentation of “The Princess Who Couldn’t Grow Old” starring the “Hot Shots” actors and actresses.  “Princess Sorrowful is once again celebrating her 8th birthday and has invited all the Princesses and Princes from the Kingdom to her party.  The children soon learn the sad tale of Princess Sorrowful’s birthday wish she made at her first 8th birthday party.  The Sorcerer of Greed granted her wish and only an act of generosity can reverse it.  Will one of the birthday guests change the fate of the sad little princess?”  Directed by Michele Proude of Hull and assisted by Krystina Sweeney of Weymouth.

The “Big Shots” actors and actresses will present “Hokus Pokus”.  “The story of Mother Goose’s female fairytale characters who come alive in Storybook Land only to learn that all of the male fairytale characters have disappeared, all but Prince Charming, who finally pushes Cinderella over the edge with his chauvinistic demands.  It appears that Mother Goose wants to teach all the female characters to be more independent, only she may have gone too far.  Will the male characters return?  Or will all the fairytale stories be forever changed?”  Directed by Pamela Boyden of Hanover and assisted by Steven Podreca of Weymouth.

The curtain call will be for 3:00 p.m. on the 9th with a presentation of “Naughty Natalie’s Nightmare” starring another group of “Hot Shots” between the ages of 4 and 12 years old.  This is the story of Natalie who doesn’t take care of her toys and breaks her father, mother, brother and sister’s things all the time.  She is constantly getting into trouble and so the story begins as Natalie throws another fit and is sent to her room.  When she falls asleep at her desk she wakes up to find all the toys in her house have come alive and they are not very happy.  Will the toys make Nat the Brat ‘walk the plank’ or will they find sympathy when they hear her side of the story?  Directed by Pamela Boyden and assisted by Matt Taylor Curby of Hingham.

The award-winning play “A Fairytale” was presented at the original First Night of Boston and starred a teenaged Jodi Purdy as Kisso the Bear.  In this production, Purdy-Quinlan plays Wacko the Wizard opposite Matt Taylor Curby as Kisso.  These strange companions have been traveling the countryside creating magic potions that will make all the Kingdom’s girlie’s want to kiss Kisso so he can become a handsome prince.  They finally arrive at the castle of Wacko’s former college student, King Leopold, who happens to have four lovely princesses.  Soon the castle is turned upside down and everyone is discombobulated just as the Queen is about to have a new baby.  Will the Queen have an heir to the throne?  Will Kisso become a prince?  Will the castle’s inhabitants survive all that is about to happen?  Directed by Jodi Purdy-Quinlan and assisted by Matt Taylor Curby.

Tickets can be purchased at the door or ordered via telephone at 781-331-2700 with a credit card M/C and Visa accepted.  Orders can be placed via www.purdyquinlanstudios.com by sending an email requesting tickets.

Contact Purdy-Quinlan Studios located at 416 Bridge Street, North Weymouth about upcoming theatre workshops, on-camera acting classes, seminars, after school programs, April vacation “Star of the Day” camps and summer camp programs.

Purdy-Quinlan recently wrapped co-casting over 700 extras on the feature film “Stiffs” starring Danny Aiello and is actively searching for new talent for future film, television and theatre productions shooting in Boston and New York.

She advises interested people that acting experience is not necessary and professional headshots are not needed.  She will accept any photo that is a true depiction of your look with your name, date of birth, telephone number and email address written on the back.  They can also be mailed or emailed to her attention.
